V-1 Missile |
|||||||||||||||||
The first successful cruise
missile, the V-1 was not a terribly sophisticated machine but it earned
its place in history. It has since become iconic and it is
one of the obvious "Wunder Weapons" in the Nazi arsenal. As such,
it is no surprise that this aircraft / missile has been a frequent
modeling subject. Previously seen as part of "combo" kits that
paired the V-1 with its more notable interceptor aircraft (usually late
model Spitfires or Tempests) the V-1 has recently been rendered in all
its various versions by MAC Models. There's also been other
renderings of the more specialized versions of the craft and once I
unearth the images of those I'll post them here as well. |

These kits are well molded and
come with a small photo-etch sheet to enhance the basic twenty six
pieces of styrene that comprise the rest of the kit. The
nosecones and other subassemblies vary between the different
versions. It's good to see these kits detailing this rather
esoteric subject. |

It's a Tamiya kit so the rest
speaks for itself . Somewhere buried I have 5 of the Testors kit with 5
of their Okha's bought for a bargain price years ago. |

This is the Trainer version of the manned V-1 with 2 cockpits and a landing skid. With only 10 parts in 1/72 scale this is a small kit which disappointingly has small bubble dents all over the body but as it's so small these shouldn't take too long to fix. Other than that 2 nice seats are included along with the canopies etc. Should be a pretty quick build . Just noticed RS Models also do a version of this plane - probably better quality too. |
